Congratulations to the Apple Valley Speech Team for a Championship performance this weekend at Chanhassen, the first speech invitational of the season. Despite facing top competition from programs in the metro area, Apple Valley claimed both the Varsity and the Novice Sweepstakes Championships. The team total for Sweeps was 304 for AV, Lakeville North had 178, and Roseville had 172. Congrats to the team for these two prestigious accomplishments!

Apple Valley had a number of significant individual accomplishments. Junior Connor Haugen was named the champion in varsity Creative Expression and runner-up in varsity Prose. In addition, freshman Max Courtright won the novice championship in Creative Expression, and also received 5th place in the varsity division.

Other individual champions included Abbie Gotter (varsity Oratory), Miriam Kelberg (novice Oratory), Alexis Reeves (novice Poetry), Georgia Schmitt (novice Informative), Kelly Fix (novice Prose), and Kellie Metzger (novice Extemporaneous Reading).

Runners-up include Lauren Ham (varsity Drama), Szumei Leow (varsity Great Speeches), Courtney Aronson (varsity Storytelling), Paige Coulter (varsity Informative), Jacob Shawback (novice Informative), Diann Persaud (novice Poetry), and Mallory Lammers (novice Extemporaneous Reading).

Third place winners include Jesse Carlson (varsity Creative Expression), Kyla Koboski (varsity Discussion), Taylor Anne Barriuso (varsity Extemporaneous Reading), Mia Owen (varsity Extemporaneous Speaking), and Kirby Hermansen (varsity Informative).

Other finalists included: Mariah Lynum (novice Creative Expression), Sean Cheren (varsity Discussion), Mei Houth (varsity Discussion), Bryan Porter (varsity Drama), Dominique Herskind (novice Drama), Katie Brellenthin (varsity Extemporaneous Reading), Emily Hattouni (novice Extemporaneous Reading), Luke Stuttgen (varsity Extemporaneous Speaking), Hogan McDonald (novice Extemporaneous Speaking), Joanna Lin (varsity Great Speeches), Kassia Tomlinson (varsity Great Speeches), Rand Silvers (novice Great Speeches), Jordan Kuchera (varsity Humorous), Rachel Robinson (varsity Informative), Ashley Tanberg (varsity Oratory), Leah Plasek (novice Poetry), and Emilee Engler (varsity Prose).
