AVHS Forensics Foundation Created

Tuesday, September 13th, 2005

A special opportunity has now become available! A group of alumnae are coming together to create the Apple Valley High School Forensics Foundation. The Foundation’s mission is to support the program and build a network of former students for life after speech and debate. This month, current students in the program will be contacting former debaters and speakers from the past 16 years to add to the Foundation’s important work.

This is a great way to catch up with folks from years past, stay in touch with the program, and find new friends!

Seth Halvorson, (OO & LD, Class of ‘92) has agreed to spearhead this project and has been working with the current coaching staff and former alums to build, what in his words is, “an organization that will help both current and former students in all of their pursuits.” Halvorson anticipates most of the coming year to be dedicated to building the necessary infrastructure but asks students to pledge their commitment to the telethon and upcoming projects so that years from now, when you look back on your experience at AVHS Speech and Debate and:

  • wonder where your old friends are,
  • need career advice,
  • and want to make the same opportunities available that participation in Speech and Debate has afforded to you
  • Halvorson has noted that the foundation will work to build lasting partnerships between the generations of AVHS speech and debate. The foundation will support the needs of the current students in the form of material support, but beyond this, he hopes that, “college scholarships, mentorship opportunities, and employment networking” will be available.

While the website is being developed and the infrastructure is being built, we’d love to hear from you by email at or through our Friendster group. Check out some of the photos of alumnae by clicking on photos.

We look forward to hearing from you!
